Sandy Furuya is the Senior Accounting Manager of Wamhoff’s Accounting Department, leading the tax division of a nationally ranked Top 100 financial planning firm1, and one of the largest independent firms in the St. Louis area. In this capacity, she manages a staff of nine tax professionals and bookkeepers, and advises corporate and individual clients on their tax matters throughout the year. Sandy prepares over 375 individual, trust, business, and non-profit tax returns on an annual basis.

In addition to tax advice, preparation of returns, and ongoing consulting, she works with businesses on their own day-to-day accounting, setting up and maintaining their systems, administering payroll through an electronic system she implemented at Wamhoff, and providing on-site services as needed. She also has extensive experience working with new businesses, establishing their accounting practices and systems, and helping them through their tax issues.

Sandy has led the Wamhoff Accounting Department in the achievement of a number of accolades over the years. Wamhoff is consistently named among the Best Accounting Firms in St. Louis by St. Louis Small Business Monthly, and Sandy has been named by the paper as Top Accountants in St. Louis. In 2014, Sandy was honored by Streetscape Magazine with its annual Beyond the Best in Business Award which recognizes local business people for their professional achievements and community contributions.

Sandy volunteers her expertise in finance and accounting to many area non-profits. She is the treasurer for Lutheran Campus Ministry, an organization whose mission is to provide students a comfortable environment to connect with their faith and God. Sandy and her staff provide accounting work and oversight to organizations such as the St. Louis Area Police Chiefs Association, Crusade Against Crime, and T.E.A.M.

Sandy also serves on the board of “Just Because We Care,” an organization founded by her family to educate, feed, build schools and houses, and provide basic support to children in a small mountain village in Honduras. Sandy travels to Honduras annually, a trip she looks forward to throughout the year.

Sandy received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Missouri in 1985. She received her Series 7 in November, 2014, and is also an Enrolled Agent, a US certification which allows tax professionals to represent clients in dealings with the IRS.

In her spare time, Sandy enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She also enjoys golf and walking her dog, Alex.
