Wamhoff Senior Accounting Manager, Sandy Furuya has been honored with a 2014 Beyond the Best in Business award by Streetscape Magazine, recognizing 50 St. Charles area business and community leaders for their contributions to the community. The award was given at a ceremony on October 23rd, where Sandy was joined by Wamhoff team members, family and friends.
Sandy’s nomination, as submitted by Bob Wamhoff to the Streetscape committee of judges:
In the early days of Wamhoff, back in the late 1970’s, there were only three of us. We’d prepare tax returns on client’s kitchen tables, washing machines, and coffee tables. It was a small and lean operation, but we knew we were starting something that would provide clients a better way to get great service and expert advice for all of their financial needs.
Sandy Furuya was part of the three-man operation that was Wamhoff back then. Over 35 years later, she remains a key part of the Wamhoff team, leading the firm’s accounting division which prepares over 900 tax returns each year and manages the day-to-day accounting for scores of area small businesses. Her passion lies in helping clients save time and money, and she’ll dig into a client’s finances to help them do just that. Sandy has also been instrumental in guiding the growth and development of Wamhoff, seamlessly integrating tax planning and accounting with the financial planning side of the business to manage a client’s entire financial picture under one roof.
Today, Wamhoff has 25 employees, including a staff of nine tax professionals and bookkeepers who are directly managed by Sandy.
In addition to her work at Wamhoff, Sandy is also very involved in the community. She is a board member for Just Because We Care, and volunteers her time to many area non-profits including the St. Louis Police Chief’s Association, Crusade Against Crime, T.E.A.M., and Lutheran Campus Ministry.
