I would like to begin by introducing myself. My name is Brian Riggs, and I was hired at Wamhoff Financial Planning & Accounting Services, Inc in early October of 2015. I am a Research Analyst in the Financial Planning department, and my role at the firm is to provide analytical support for Bob and the financial planners. My role’s objective is to add value to the firm’s investment process, and help to improve the overall client experience.
My primary responsibility is to handle the trading activity in all of the clients’ accounts that are under Bob’s management. I ensure that any excess cash is invested into the corresponding models that are utilized. I handle all of the monthly distributions for clients that have regularly scheduled withdrawals. It is my responsibility to verify that there is enough cash in the clients’ accounts to confirm that the scheduled distribution is sent out accordingly. I handle rebalancing client portfolios, which involves adhering to the individual client’s desired risk tolerance.
Additionally, I compile performance data for all of the investment models utilized by our clients. On a bi-weekly basis, I send out performance reports to the Bob and the financial planners, so that we are continuously monitoring portfolio performance. I formulate monthly performance reports, as well as a differential report to compare month-to-month performance, and longer-term trends. I am regularly evaluate the mutual funds used in our models, as well as all of the third-party money managers that manage our clients’ investable assets. I spend a significant amount of time pulling data together and discussing investment related trends with Kyle Jones. Together, we work to provide Bob with timely and accurate market data so he can make investment decisions according to his investment philosophy.
Kyle and I frequently meet with representatives from investment companies, making sure we have the most up-to-date information to inform Bob, and best serve our clients’ interests. There are also many conference calls and seminars that I have attended, which have provided a great deal of information which helps shape my suggestions to Bob and Kyle. We are always looking for ways to improve portfolio performance for our clients.
Recently I have worked in conjunction with Kyle to adjust the sub-account allocations in our clients’ variable annuity contracts. I have analyzed the investment platform for many of the products that our client’s use. We have worked together internally to select the mutual funds, ETF’s, or subaccounts, we feel have the best opportunity to enhance future portfolio returns. By examining the investment lineup, we can make sure we are providing a portfolio that is comprised of investments which have the best performance available for each specific asset class.
In the coming months, I plan to study for the securities licenses and possibly the CFA certification. I have already learned a great deal during my time at Wamhoff Financial Planning & Accounting Services, Inc. I am very grateful to Bob for giving me the opportunity to learn and work at his firm. I look forward to what the future has in store for me. I am excited to get to know our clients, and developing those relationships in the future.
