Sandy Furuya is the Senior Accounting Manager of Wamhoff’s Accounting Department, leading the tax division of a nationally ranked Top 100 financial planning firm1. In this capacity, she manages a staff of nine tax professionals and bookkeepers, and advises corporate and individual clients on their tax matters throughout the year. Sandy prepares over 375 individual, trust, business, and non-profit tax returns on an annual basis.
Sandy’s passion lies in working through a client’s finances, no matter how complicated or straightforward they may be, and finding ways to save them time and money. A true advocate for her clients, Sandy works diligently and studies continuously to master code changes to solve clients’ tax challenges and put them on the right path.
Sandy is a trusted advisor to the many corporate clients she serves. In addition to tax advice, preparation of returns, and ongoing consulting, she works with businesses on their own day-to-day accounting, setting up and maintaining their systems, administering payroll through an electronic system she implemented at Wamhoff, and providing on-site services as needed. She also has extensive experience working with new businesses, establishing their accounting practices and systems, and helping them through their tax issues.
Sandy is active in the community, volunteering her expertise in finance and accounting to many area non-profits including the St. Louis Police Chiefs’ Association, Crusade Against Crime, T.E.A.M. and the St. Louis Chapter of the American Marketing Association. She is the treasurer for Lutheran Campus Ministry, an organization whose mission is to provide students a comfortable environment to connect with their faith and God. Sandy serves on the board of “Just Because We Care,” an organization founded by her family to educate, feed, build schools and houses, and provide basic support to children in a small mountain village in Honduras. Sandy travels to Honduras annually, a trip she looks forward to throughout the year.
Sandy received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Missouri in 1985. She is an Enrolled Agent, a US certification which allows tax professionals to represent clients in dealings with the IRS.
In her spare time, Sandy enjoys spending time with her husband and children. Their family is actively involved in sports and Sandy also enjoys golf and walking her dog, Alex.
